Williams & Selyem Winery Zinfandel Bacigalupi Vineyard 2002 Tasting Notes
I wasn’t sure I was ready for this William Selyem Zinfandel, or actually any Zinfandel, but particularly one that states 16.1 percent alcohol on the label. And, as I expected, this was a King Kong of a Zin that pounds its chest aggressively. Zinfandels are generally not shy and this 2002 William Selyem Bacigalupi Vineyard red has a "Type A" personality with extroverted fumes. Big jammy aromas of boysenberries and cherries blast from the glass. It is very ripe and walks the edge of the cliff but doesn't quite fall over. It is smooth and syrupy with blackberry and plum fruit that is complemented with chocolate liqueur with some tar and tobacco bits thrown in. There is a lengthy finish without much subtlety. If one likes boysenberry pie with a tug of alcoholic heat, then this William Selyem may be for you.

Have you tried Liar's Dice? It is also incredibly "berry" - wondering how this compares...
