Tasting Notes:
2000 Terra Noble, Gran Reserva Carmenere, Maule Valley, Chile
During the early 18th century Carmenere was a major variety in the vineyards of Bordeaux. Low yields resulting from coulure resulted in it eventually being uprooted. Today, Chile has adopted this grape which was directly imported from Bordeaux during the late 19th century.
Ruby purple in color, coupled with high glycerin levels, result in a surprisingly green wine. The palate displays dark chocolate and blackberry intermixed with a toasted weedy characteristic. Aromas of green bell peppers, roasted almonds and toast evolved one-dimensionally herbaceous. An interesting wine, drinking well now, but maybe too green for ones fond exclusively of fruit-forward wines.
