Shenandoah Vineyards Zinfandel Special Reserve 2004 Tasting Notes
This Zinfandel from Amador County's Shenandoah Vineyards is not to be confused with any wine you might find from the Shenandoah in Virginia. Zinfandel doesn't quite fit the image of Virginia. Shenandoah Vineyards of California was started by Shirley and Leon Sobon in 1997 in the Shenandoah Valley in California. They also have another winery, Sobon Estates that they own and manage. Both wineries are owned and operated by the Sobon family. The Shenandoah Zinfandel Special Reserve is made from organically certified grapes and adheres to the Amador style of Zinfandel. It's full-bodied, dark garnet and with a rich black cherry, chocolate, and vanilla-oak nose. There's not a lot of intellectual complexity here but this is an easy-to-like Zin with smooth tannins and not much bite in its finish. It serves well as a food companion to go with a good burger or a pizza.
