Scott Harvey Shiraz Mountain Selection 2004 Tasting Notes
Scott Harvey helped put Amador County wine on California's appellation map. A Sierra Mountain native, Scott learned winemaking at Montevina, crafted wines at Santino, got everyone's attention at Renwood and then was the head wine-jester at Folie a Deux Winery. He took on his own venture under his own nom de plume in 2004.

Scott must have done this 2004 Mountain Selection Syrah from Amador County with one eye closed and a hand tied behind his back; this is the type of wine that is in his blood. Well made with a bright berry nose, a bit of brush and hints of vanilla oak, the palate is laden with blueberry and red berry fruit that is balanced with a soft roundness and a solid acid backbone.
An excellent food wine to match a spectrum of food, from roasted chicken to grilled meats to absolutely nothing. Interestingly, I've grown to expect this type of California wine, either Zins or Syrahs, to be high in alcohol, above the 14.5 percent line. This is below 14 percent and doesn't burn hot like many of the Amador County wines. Bring me more.
