Quivira Vineyards Grenache Steelhead Red 2003 Review
From LoveToKnow Wine
Quivira Vineyards Grenache Steelhead Red 2003 Tasting Notes
The Dry Creek estate winery is known for its Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Sauvignon Blanc varietals—varietals that do particularly well in this Pacific maritime-influenced wine region. Their Steelhead Red is inspired by the steelhead trout and coho salmon that inhabit the creeks on the estate. This is a Rhône-style blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and a healthy dose of Zinfandel that adds robustness to the mix.

It's a full-bodied wine, full of earthy and lush fruit aromas. There's a good dose of strawberry, cherry, and dark berry flavors that is supplemented with cinnamon spice, pepper, brambles and oak essence. There's a balanced structure with good acidity that closes on a positive and satisfying finish. One would expect with a big jammy wine based upon the blend, but the result is more refined and not over-the-top. The tasty red goes well with hearty foods, grills, and probably about anything that is put on your plate.
