Penfolds Thomas Hyland Shiraz 2003 Tasting Notes
When people think of Australian Shiraz their first thought is generally Penfolds. The historic winery constantly sets the mark for others to follow. The Thomas Hyland line is a recent addition with the first vintage unveiled in the year 2000. The line is named after Dr. Rawson and Mary Penfolds' son-in-law who helped manage and build the original company. The Thomas Hyland wines are sourced from multiple districts in the South Australia wine region. Premium Shiraz grapes are pulled in from McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Barossa Valley, Padthaway, and the Robeāall the best spots in Australia. Penfolds' 2003 Thomas Hyland Shiraz vintage has a medium-body and is soft and supple. There are solid aromas of cherry and plum fruit with notes of spice and oak. The mouth is round with black fruit flavors that are complemented with a white peppery attitude and enhancing vanilla oak notes. There is slight jolt of tannin that slips away and the wine finishes with its fruit flavors at the forefront. Nice complexity and an appealing Shiraz representative.
