Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Insignia 2002 Tasting Notes
Wine Spectator awarded this wine the Wine of the Year for 2002. Two recent tastings confirm that this was no accident. Insignia is a blended wine that in 2002 had 78% Cabernet, 14 % Merlot, 7 % Petit Verdot and 1 % Malbec. It is deep, rich, opulent and concentrated. It has layers of spice on top of the abundant fruit. Fruit notes are dominated by ripe blackberry and cassis with hints of dried cherry. Spice elements are cinnamon, clove and pepper. This is a luxurious wine and will probably improve for at least 4-5 years. 15,000 cases made.
