Duck Pond Cellars Chardonnay Columbia Valley 2003 Tasting Notes

Duck Pond Cellars is normally thought of as an Oregon winery with home base in Dundee, Oregon. It also crosses the border into Washington's Columbia Valley, a region that is dry and extreme in comparison to Willamette Valley. Grapes for this Chardonnay comes from two desert-influenced vineyards that makes life tough for the grape. Ironically, this tough life of low moisture and poor soil produces low-yielding vines with high-quality and flavorful fruit. Duck Pond's 2003 Chardonnay is lively with fruit and floral aromas and flavors. There is a refreshing mouthwash of pineapples, nectarines and stylish blossoms. The body has a smooth creamy texture and ends with a slight tang of acidity that makes for a nice accompaniment to seafood, salads and chicken.
