Domaine de l Oratoire St. Martin Grenache Carianne 2003 Review

Domaine de l'Oratoire St.-Martin Grenache Carianne 2003 Tasting Notes
I advise decanting this supple and balanced Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages, unless, of course, you like picking out stems from between your two front teeth like I had to. Domaine de l'Oratoire St.-Martin is from the village of Cairanne, a red with a typical regional blend of 60 percent Grenache, 30 percent Mourvèdre, and 10 percent Syrah.

The nose opens with berry and plum fruit with a shot of tobacco and leather. It's dark purple in color and the ripe boysenberry fruit is lush in the mouth with peppery spice and leather tones. There are sturdy tannins but they are not a hurdle to enjoyment. There's a slow, demure finish of Yokohama silk that brings on a smile. The wine is produced unfiltered and unrefined, produced from 50-year-old vines. Please, pour me another glass.
