This estate bottled Macon-Villages is a fantastic unwooded white burgundy listed at just over ten dollars. All of Luquet’s wines are estate bottled, unmanipulated (seeing no time in oak barrels) and normally only seeing partial malolactic fermentation.
While this is Luquet’s entry wine to his series, it offers plenty of substance and demands your attention. Showing lively acidity and plenty of lemon, lime and tart apple, the 2004 is much less ripe than the 2003, which displayed lush melon and stone fruit. Recommended being paired with food, it would be a perfect accompaniment to fish, shellfish, poultry or semi-soft cheeses.
