When you think of United States wine country, what pops into your head? For most, the answer to that question is California. There is a good reason why when people think of wine country in the U.S., that California is the first thing they think of, it is the largest wine producing state in the country. There are a lot of great wines that come out of "The Sunshine State", but there are also plenty of other wine producing regions in the U.S., so why not explore them?

From Coast to Coast

Wineries dot the country from the East coast to the West coast and everywhere in between. Here are a few examples:

  • Oregon – Vintner's have been making wine in this Pacific Northwest state since the late 1800's.
  • Virginia – This east coast state is home to over 100 different wineries.
  • Missouri – In the heart of the Midwest, the state of Missouri has over 60 different wineries and six major wine producing areas.

A United States Wine Tasting Trip

If you don't have the time or the money to physically travel around to different wine regions in the United States, you can still take a wine tasting trip of sorts by purchasing wines from different areas of the country and having your very own private tasting at home.

You could start on the west coast with a Pinot Noir from Oregon, then maybe a Zin from Sonoma. After that, you could make your way east, grabbing a few bottles of wine from Missouri along the way. Just don't try to do it all in one day!
