Sure, Pinot Noir may not get all the attention and accolades that Cabernet does, but for years, it's been quietly catching up to Cab in popularity. This gain in recognition and esteem cannot be contributed only to the movie Sideways…although, the movie did help nudge Pinot's overall sales numbers up a bit.

It seems that for decades, no wine could ever hold a candle to Cabernet and definitely not a French Bordeaux or an Italian Barolo and especially not a Pinot Noir. Really, there is no satisfactory explanation for this snub, but Pinot is no longer just for it's die hard fans and it certainly will not be ignored any longer.

One of the greatest things about Pinot Noir is its versatility. It's perfect for the wine beginner, it satisfies the wine connoisseur's palate and can be paired with just about any food without being too overpowering. This cannot be said about the aforementioned Cab's, Barolo's and Bordeaux. No, those three are wines that often cannot and more often, do not, share the spotlight with any food nor any wine. Not Pinot though, it's a very food friendly kind of wine, not to mention, very drinkable, easy on the palate and for the most part, much easier on the wallet than the "big three".
