ARH Wine Company Shiraz Paringa 2003 Tasting Notes
The name Paringa derives from the single vineyard where this 2003 Shiraz came from. David and Dena Hickinbotham at their ARH Wine Company have produced a well-crafted Shiraz from their vineyard in South Australia on the south bank of the River Murray in an area where approximately 50% of Australian wines are produced. The Hickinbotham's winery has done nothing to impugn the reputation of their neighborhood. The Paringa Shiraz's nose pops with ripe cherries and plums coupled with spice and tarry smoked oak. The mouth is ripe with dark berry and plum fruit and a peppery lift. Medium-bodied with smooth tannins and a lingering finish of fruit keeps the interest going. This 2003 Shiraz represents a good value and a delicious one to up the ante. Drinks well now and can hold for 2-3 years if desired, but not necessary.
